Athiestic America

The goal of this thread is not just make America a non-christian state by an anti-christian state. (possibly to the point of capitol offense)

Henry VIII had a larger reform with major docternal errors. This lead people to question protestantism, however they had nowhere to fall back upon due to wide spread ethnic purges of Catholics in England.

During the American Revolution, the fathers of the declaration not only voted for separation of church and state, they voted in protosecularist ideology as well.

During the late 1850's to early 1860's there was a major revolt of slaves. Many cotton fields were burned, in an attempt to form a labor union. The revolt turned into an ethnic war. Southerners and Slaves were killing each other "in the name of God, according to Biblical principles." This shattered many Americans confidence in religion. Several southern baptist denominations were labeled as rebellious groups attacking fundimental rights and were forcefully closed by the government.

Throughout the late 19th century and early 20th century Relitivism was the dominant line of though. Dividing the few christians left in America.

The final nail in the coffin was in the 1960's when rebellious teenagers formed Neochristian Extremist Cults, many of these cults killed minor political figures who were overt athiests. These cults got into wars with the police. Finally the government made membership in these cults illegal. They started with Extremist Christian groups, folowed by Fundimentalists. As well many Christian Moderates were arrested.

Is there a more plausible way?

Its very interesting and I'd like to see more. The TL you're describing is a bit extreme and and is really straddling the border of ASB but it close enough.

I could see the founders being clearer in separation of church and state and a more secularist ideal and create a more secularist society who would be more friendly to atheist and by extension other religions as well. Such that we could see a atheist or non Christian president by now. But to the extent you describing it might be a bit much.

I don't think this is ASB. George Washington never identified himself as a Christian. There have been other Presidents who although they called themselves Christians, their beliefs would not be accepted in the majority of American Christian sects.

Thomas Jefferson compared Jesus to Zeus and Minerva. He wasn't a Christian at all.

Let him be at the constitutional convention and we would see a stricter separation of church and state, but I don't think he could necessarily ban religion itself.

quite simple, let the american revolutio happen later, as a spin off and on the same ideological base of the french one, presto you will have a fiercely antireligious state!

on a side note, let Bonaparte have a role similar to the one Garibaldi had in Soth America, instead of the italian and egiptian campagn you colud have a virginian one...

That'd be a little silly, since one of the main reasons for the freedom of religion was to get all the states to be willing to with the Constitution, since all of the states had their own crazy variations on religion at the time. One of the reasons people flocked to the colonies, in fact.
