Assistance with Native American New World

I am working on a timeline where the major players of the world are the Russians, the Qing, the Swedes, the Germans, the French, the Byzantines, the Persians, the Ethiopians, and the Maratha. I originally had the Aztec and Iroquois as the New World powers, but in hindsight that seems too unlikely even for the stretch present in this timeline.

I was wondering, in a world of colonialism dominated by the Swedes from Vinland and the French controlling the east coast of the New World, who would be the major Native American powers? I was thinking a hegemony for the Aztec, dominating Mexico and South America with power being contested between the Mixtec and the Inca at various times, and a Federation of sorts for the Native Americans. This is under the constraints of a successful Vinland spreading disease and horses through the New World, resulting in a more resistant Native population, coupled with Spanish defeat at the hands of the French. Britain is part of the Swedish Empire in this timeline as well.

Here is an extremely rough map of how the world looks, ignore most of the exact borders since they are being remodeled (though any tips would be appreciated)

Holy space filling empires batman! You might want to break up some (or all) of those nations. The Abyssinian Empire in particular would be impossible to govern with modern technology, let alone early modern tech. You also have a French Republic, presumably caused by a French Revolution despite this world not having an England, Spain, Austria or Prussia to fight the Seven Years' war with.

As for your specifics, the Aztecs were a tributary hegemon and an alliance between the three major city states of the region. They were not a truly unified empire as the term is usually understood.

This is not meant to discourage you in any way- these are very common issues for new AH members. You might want to rework your scenario a bit more in both the old and new world, and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Ah, I should clarify, this is set in modern times. There was a Prussia, and an Austria, and a Spain. Spain was placed under personal union with the French at the end of a successful War of Spanish Succession, gained by trading the Low Countries to Prussia in exchange for assistance. The French Republic is actually the First French Republic, founded under Napoleon. When Napoleon went rampaging eastwards, a combined Byzantine-Swedish-Holy Roman Empire front stopped him, but not before he managed to dismantle the Holy Roman Empire as he did OTL, which the Byzantines were more than happy to allow. He didn't succeed entirely though, as a French-backed Westphalia contesting the stronger Prussia kept them from being united, and has instead solidified them into a secular Holy Roman Empire- the German Electorates.

The Aztecs in this timeline are also a tributary Hegemon, with their influence spread through South America. The major powers such as the Inca and Mixtec compete for control of the Hegemony at any given time.

Africa is a clusterfuck, and needs to be redone. I should clarify that a lot of the wide space is tributary powers, mostly in the case of the Abyssinians. I'm also adding several new nations in areas with strong ethnic identities that would still exist in this timeline, as well as "buffer states" along primary faction borders (each faction is represented by a coloured name). My focus right now is on fixing up the new world. I don't know enough about the Native Americans nor where to look for that information to decide who would be the major powers in an America where the fight against the Colonists is an actual fight.

Here's one of the problems. If Byzantium still exists (and it looks like it either never lost Italy and Africa or it regained them) then there's no way that Napoleon would exist-or for that matter that the HRE would exist in a world where Constantinople and Rome are both still under the authority of the ERE. If Islam isn't around, or is limited to Persia, then that changes the entire history of Central Asia, which in turn changes the history of Mongolia, which changes China and India which means there's a good chance that the Qing and Marathas don't exist. If there's no Arabic empires then there's no Al-Andalus, no reconquista and no Spain.

The OTL Aztecs had a lot of difficulty just keeping Central Mexico under control, to the point that most of their tributaries were happy to ally with Cortes to get rid of them. The Aztecs would need a lot of reform to get anywhere near that big.

I think the best you could hope for here is that the areas you show end up as Coptic nations, but there are a lot of geographic obstacles that make a coherent empire (or even a semi-unified faction) really difficult to create there.

There are plenty of ways to get natives that can give the Old World a bit more of a fight than OTL. You might want to check out The Sons of Inti Shall Not Perish or The Legacy of Saint Brendan for some inspirations.

Islam never succeeds since the Byzantine-Sasanian War of 628 never occurs. History for the Byzantines remains mostly the same until then, so the rest of Europe can still get it's rise to power. Though, I admit, I didn't consider that aspect of Spain not occurring. Mongols still occur, albeit in a much more limited scope. The thing is, it's hard to make an interesting story if every single event follows the historical flow it should follow, so I've got to do a bit of fudging to get the outcome I want-- in this case, it's start with the endpoint and work history to fit it.

The Abyssinians only extend from around the Horn of Africa up. The rest of it is Coptic nations, and they are being remodeled. Thanks for the native recommendations, I'll check those out!.

I mean, I guess the question is "do you just want to tell a fun story about random historical powers" or do you want things to be somewhat logical/historically plausible? They're not quite separate-plausibility concerns can break suspension of disbelief. Maybe a better way to do it would be to start with a later PoD and work in a version of some of these. Maybe you could have something like an Ottoman collapse and a quote-unquote "Greek"(some kind of weird neo-Byzantine deal, IDK what would actually make any sense) and Abyssinian/Ethopian empire arise to act in the Indian Ocean.
