Asquith dies before he is foced out

WI either as a result of an accident, health problems or German action Asquith had died some time in 1916.

I am assuming that Lloyd George takes office a little earlier than in otl.

Does the Liberal Party stay together?

Any consequences for the conduct of the war or peace?

Asquith...

I'm always a little uneasy with insubstantial PODs. I suppose you could have a more violent attack by Mary Leigh in Dublin which leaves Asquith with ongoing health problems.

Had Asquith perished in 1912, I imagine Lloyd George would have become Prime Minister and led the Liberals. At that time, as far as I know, the personal rift which would characterise the relationship between Asquith and L-G and destroy the Liberal party, had not manifested itself.

It's likely the party would have remined united which is not to say the war wouldn't have happened but would the munitions crisis have swept away L-G as it did Asquith?

Forward to 1916 and the obvious thought is that the tragic death of the Prime Minister in wartime could well have unified the Liberals in grief and rallied them around L-G.
