Asian-American POTUS?

And I have to say that even though he was Japanese-American, he sure looked like all the other Americans in the story. Although that's a trait from manga in general, as there characters tend to all look alike. As it is, he might as well have been a German-American, or a Polish-American, or Jewish, etc.
True, the guy in those pictures that Mr Bondoc posted doesn't look Asian at all.

What is the earliest that the USA could have had a President of Asian descent?

(or at least a canidate who was a serious contender*)

* = of equal or greater likelyhood to be elected than V.Woodhull, who had the blessing of President Grant.

If Bobby Jindal hadn't botched that Republican rebuttal to Obama's speech to congress he could have been a serious contender for the 2012 elections.
But he came off as a dumb redneck in brown skin.

That speech was *ill-advised*, but I still see Jindal as a contender in '16 or later, considering he's still under 40. Remember when everyone wrote Clinton off after his DNC '88 keynoter?

I think this is another one of those things where you just need to have someone of Asian descent who by luck gets into the position.
I could well imagine a non-white president of any sort being OK in the 80s; its just having a suitable candidate around which is the problem.

I'd imagine some trouble before that with Vietnam, the civil rights movement being very recent and a lot of racist attitudes still floating around in the elderly.
