Arsenal of Incumbency: Aquino not killed

WI Ninoy Aquino hadn't been assassinated in '83? Marcos gave them a yellow light, if not a green one. Wouldn't have happened if there was a red flag. Let's say he tries to discredit Aquino, since he endorsed Martial Law and NS until he was jailed. Then holds an election, allows UNIDO to win some Batasan seats, but still wins. Who's to say Marcos couldn't win a regular election against him, as did twice in 1965 and 1969? One question, what was Aquino's ideology? Some Filipinos I know say an out-and-out leftist, as opposed to the conservative corporatism of Imelda's husband.

I wouldn't call him a leftist, so much as center-left, from what my folks who lived through the New Society tell me. He was known for criticizing Marcos's spending, though.

Though I think by the 80's Marcos running in a free election would render him dead in the water. This was the point where things started going downhill.
