Ark Royal and Illustrious mods to suit Westland Whirlwind

This old thread of mine got me thinking... https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/increase-range-and-ammo-of-whirlwind-fighter.372150/

WI, the Whirlwind was chosen as the FAA fighter in 1937, to enter service in 1939/40. Given what we know about the Whilwind's high landing and takeoff speed, high stall speed and weight, etc, how do we need to modify Ark Royal and the Illustrious class now under construction?

We're not modifying the Whirlwind beyond adding RDF to find the carrier, folding wings, catapult hooks, arrestor hook, cross tank valve and racks for bombs or tanks.

If you're inclined to post that the Whirlwind is unsuitable, would never be chosen, must be further modified, etc. this is not the thread for you. The boffins at the Admiralty and Air Ministry have spoken, the Whirlwind is their chosen fleet fighter.

Mods to the CV designs, including to the nearly complete Ark Royal would likely be lift dims, assumed greater catapult use (2 cats on the Illustrious), stronger arrestor cables, a landing light system, and systems to help single seat fighters find the carrier.

But are all these mods ASB for carrier designers in 1937? And what about the Outrageous class and other CVs, what do they do for fighters?

If the Centaur class can operate Sea Hawk jet fighters in Axial deck configuration then there is no practical reason why the Whirlwind couldn't be made to operate from the Ark etc if efforts were made to overcome the difficulties.

These efforts may also enable earlier adoption of heavier Centaurus or Sabre powered strike aircraft like the Fairey Spearfish, another of the fave WI carrier birds. Assuming these engines could be made reliable by the early 40's.

The greater use of the peregrine engine also makes me think it could be used for smaller tank engines until the Meteor is ready.

If it comes to WI Whirlwinds, can alternatives to Whirlwinds come out to play?
