Hello. I was wondering, if Argentina had invaded the South Sandwich Islands, Southern Thule, South Shetlands etc., would the outcome of the war have changed? Would there be an island hopping campaign much as there was in WWII in the Pacific.

Sorry if this is a n00b WI

According to Wikipedia, they did. So, not really.

Someone like Fellatio Nelson can answer with better authority, but I´d say
no, because you can´t maintain strong garisons or project power from there. After all, it´s cold, icy, to quote wikipedia:

South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands are a collection of bleak and remote islands in the South Atlantic Ocean. Most of the islands, rising steeply from the sea, are rugged and mountainous. At higher elevations the islands are permanently covered with ice and snow.

Actually, they stopped at South Georgia and didnt go on to the South Sandwiches or Shetlands.

I read that after the war the RN sent a landing party to Sth Thule and wrecked the gear the Argies had set up there, a weather station, flagpole and a few other odds and ends. Sth Georgia was about the only other island of use down there, the rest were isolated, barren, inhospitable rocks.
