Archduke Maximilian Ernest survives

So, another query for you all, Archduke Maximilian Ernest was the second born son of Archduke Charles II of Austria, and brother of Ferdinand II Holy Roman Emperor. He died in 1616, unwed and without issue. My query is this, who might he be able to marry if he had survived, and what impacts could his survival might have had on the wider picture?

Am I getting my Max's mixed up or wasn't he in some religious order?

As to leaving issue, he left a bastard son, D. Carlos d'Austria who died in 1638.

Marriage candidates would depend on when he weds, but let Emperor Matthias wed elsewhere, and Anna of Tyrol is up for grabs. Otherwise, probably Italian or Magdalene of Bavaria

I think he was nominated for a spot but failed to get it or died before he could. Abnd alright interesting. Seeing Matthias with a son himself is something I've been meaning to see

No your right. He was Coadjutor of the Teutonic Order when he died, so once Maximilian III kicked it Max would become Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights. He might end up as Governor/Archduke of Further Austria (Tyrol and the Alsace territories). He was also Emperor Ferdinand II's favorite brother and trusted confidant, especially in comparison to their brother Leopold. So it would be interesting to see how Max's survival effects things in the Habsburg dynasty.

Didn't know about him being Ferdinand's favourite brother. So, him marrying before his OTL death year seems unlikely, unless he never gets appointed coadjutor in the first place (maybe Poldchen gets it instead). But being favourite brother to the new emperor could have all sorts of fun implications. What were his religious views? Archcatholic like many of his siblings? Or more tolerant-ish?

I think it's unlikely that he would marry but would he be given Leopold's ecclesiastical appointments in Passau and Strasbourg if he still renounces them to marry? Or would he, rather than Leopold be made Archduke of Further Austria? If he's Ferdinand's favorite brother that move makes sense as it will reward him while ensuring that the territory falls back to the Austrian mainline when he dies childless. Leopold's kind of a wildcard so I don't know how he'd handle that.
