May not prevent WWI as there has still be a couple of assasination attempts by what are identified as hard line Serbian nationalists. Coupled with the tensions in Europe at the time. However the fact the Archduke and his wife survived may cool tempers enough that a big conflict doesn't spark off.

The other big change is that in 1916, or whenever with butterflies, when Franz Joseph dies Franz Ferdinard becomes emperor. Not sure how much differently he would have handled it if in the midst of a major conflict but if no peace he will clash with the Hungarian nobles especially and the conservatives generally over more powers for the Slavs.

Serbia might be humilated diplomatically anyway (though not so severe) - thanks to less political infighting with Hungary, this might not create enough of a storm to start a war.

Instead, the war breaks out in 1915 over Albania.

Hello,

just wanted to say the Archduke was the one who want make the KUK monarchie more a miority friendly stae . he wanted to give more rights to slavs and give them a own slav part of the crown.
True or false.
Thanks

Probably all that would be required is that he is shot in the body instead of the head. I read a while back that Ferdinand was wearing an early (but apparently effective) bullet-resistant vest.

Not only could this have an effect on the beginning of WWI, it could also effect the development of bullet resistant/proof clothing.

To be more precise, the Archduke was shot in the base of the neck; the bullet severed his jugular and lodged near his spine. If he was wearing a bulletproof vest, an impact just a couple of inches lower would likely have saved his life. (Duchess Sophie, his wife, was shot in the lower right abdomen; the bullet somehow missed her organs but severed the main abdominal artery and right iliac vein, causing massive blood loss; she was dead by the time the couple's automobile arrived at the Konak, General Potoriek's headquarters/residence.)
