Disregarding the difficulties of the early Arab armies of the Umayyad Caliphate being able to penetrate the land and navel defenses of the Eastern Roman Empire in their capital city of Constantinople, let us assume that they are able to penetrate through the defenses and capture the city. Now if Constantinople is conquered, would the Umayyad Caliphs be willing to move their capital from Damascus to Constantinople itself? If so, would the city have a special significance since it was pretty much the center of Eastern Christendom.
