The British Intercity 225 entered service in 1989 and used several of the features of the failed APT which died in 1985.
What if this order was reversed? WI the 225, using some of the APT features entered service in the early/mid 80s while development work continued on the advanced technology which caused the failure of the APT? Another 5 years of computer advances would have solved many of the problems which arose in the world's first computer-controlled tilting system. Similarly work could have continued on the hydrokinetic brakes until they could do the job of stopping the train from 155mph in signal distances designed for 125mph.
