Apple goes bankrupt in the 90's

I saw a show once where it discussed the careers of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. Supposedly, at one point the Mac products weren't selling well and Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy. It took an infusion of cash from Bill Gates to keep Apple running (Microsoft was having trouble with the Department of Justice as a possible monopoly over computers, so it need someone to fight).

What happens if Apple goes bankrupt? Is Microsoft broken up?

the Archimedes becomes the no 2 machine and RiscOS the number 2 OS as a result ARM chip based desktops continue to be a mainstream option ...

The 90s were a strange period in the history of computers. We had Windows 95, IBM OS2, and so many version of open code OS. There were plenty of good ideas and so many bad ones.

Apple trying to be one of the worse. As an Apple tech and consultant they were dark days with sales in the toilet. No one wanted a PC by Apple and they were disappointing the Apple faithful.

If Apple was to go bankrupt though, Jobs could of easily created a new company at those heady days of the late 90s.

Well, he did.

NeXT had the problem of trying to be one of Job's artistic monuments when he needed a cheap killer app. It had the potential to do better in universities, but back in the 80s and 90s business was the purpose of a PC. It's why the Apple II outlasted the original Mac. I would love to see a TL where Wozniak found another partner and hit it big again. :)
