Aparthied South Africa relocates it's black population to bantustans

Could Aparthied South Africa relocates it's whole black population to various bantustans

Would this require great power backing like a surviving Nazi Germany or a racist United States

Could South Africa dissolve the category of colored and also ship them to various bantustans or a bantustan

What would be the impact on South Africa

If Verwoerd lives. He truly wanted to split down the middle. The colored population would been given an economic homeland in the cape but political intergration with the whites.
The United party wanted to persue Botha style race federation policies in the 60’s.
To ally first the colored than Indians with the whites against the Africans.

Colored were the only non white under up policy allowed to be elected, directly to parliament.
Africans and Indians were allowed to vote for whites. Africans and coloreds were allowed to serve in national councils, subordinate to parliament.

In practice it'd probably just change little except for adding 3-4 more lesotho-style countries on the map* and making South Africa be split 50/50 between black and non-black instead of about 80% black.

* That zulu bantustan, a xhosa state, that setswana-peaking one and another one.

I'm pretty sure not even Aparthied South Africa was stupid enough to literally shove 80% of the population into barely functional bantustan which would probably lead to a mass death scenario.

Not to mention utterly collapsing the economy of the vast majority of the country, as they're hollowed out of labor (or, for the most densely populated bantustans, suddenly faced with an overpopulation crisis).

Couldn't you have the blacks head out of the bantustans as temp workers for like a few months or years

Imagine a large white area was established in the 1950s and early 60s which left the blacks with most of the country. Would many whites want to live there? One point is that they would have a lower standard of living.

They wouldn't be given most of the country.

It's not really an option when the majority of the country has barely any white people and you'd need large amounts of gerrymandering, ethnic cleansing, and straight up massacre to have a land area consisting of half of South Africa which is more than 50% white.

In the 1950s and early 1960s, the Black leaders would be willing to make deals. Nor was it uncommon in the era, as decolonization movements swept through Asia and Africa in the 1950s and '60s, resulting in movements of tens of millions people. I think the problem will not be the blacks going out but the whites who will be reluctant to go in these areas.

Verwoerd genuinely believed in racial separation for its own sake. Those who followed him, wanted the cheap labor. Of all the homeland leaders Magope, and Mantanzima were just as committed. Not mere puppets.

No. They were needed for labor in the cities. The "beauty" of the Bantustan idea was that in an age when racial discrimination was out of fashion, the South African government could say, "We're not discriminating against urban blacks because they're black; rather they are being treated differently because they are citizens of some tribal homeland, not of the RSA." Never mind how tenuous their actual connection with such "homelands" was...
