Anyone ever tried a UCSA TL?

Has anyone here tried to do anything with the United States of Central America? If there has been something, would anyone be able to point me their way?

Not on its own, no, for me, and I don't recall seeing anything by others... I did wrap Miskitia with its kings into a story of mine once, though

Well, I ask because I found something from the Spanish class I took in college, where we had to do a report about some of the central american countries, and my group was doing Guatemala. It was there that I learned about the USCA from browsing their history (it helped that our group didn't end up the only one to mention its existence) and I was actively wondering to myself, what if any major effects a longer living UCSA could have (I'm not sure if it could have lasted all the way to today, though that could be interesting)

that, and I've been playing Vicky II with the goal of making the UCSA a major regional power :p

Well, one interesting question about a surviving USCA could be what happens if Panama revolts from Colombia - will they be invited/coerced into joining the USCA? And thus make the Panama Canal, if it is now completed, into a UCSA thing?

Hey!!!

I've actually been doing that myself on the Alternate History Wiki. Except I used Vicky II as the medium for it...Then again, with all the wacky stuff that's happened, I don't think it's viable for a plausible storyline.

Isn't it the United Provinces of Central America? Nope, my mistake, it was the Federal Republic of South America. I haven't seen any on this board, but I would be interested to see a TL where Los Altos survives as its own nation. That would be really cool.

Actual name was apparently The Federal Republic of Central America, also known as the United Provinces of Central America.

The main problems for the USCA were the ideological struggles between Liberals and Conservatives in the nation. The wiki seems to say that because there was no sustained struggle for independence, that its part of the reason why the nation fell apart.

So this makes me wonder..what would be a good POD to try and help give the USCA a longer life?

I meant Central America, I just wrote South.

My TL has them survive as a butterfly, not going into local politics or anything. But basically, the Brits convince them that the Nicaraguan canal (a huge source of income and jobs) depends on them being 'stable'. They get used to working together, and end up staying together (at least up to this point in the TL, but I think for the long term).

They'd probably forgo Panama entirely and just do the long-proposed Nicaragua Canal.

Do you mean the canada timeline in your sig?

I have to wonder what other sorts of changes having a united Central america might potentially cause. I don't expect anything really huge, but I do have to wonder.
