Any possibility of avoiding the Noche Triste?

I'm still planning out the kinks for what's to happen in Anahuatlacanco: Land Between the Waters, Land of the Nahuatlaca so I'm asking you guys whether it was possible for La Noche Triste to be avoided altogether. I was thinking of having Cortes either stay in Tenochtitlan to supervise his troops and send someone else to deal with the Spanish force that was to arrest him.

I'm not entirely sure that Cortes could actually have an envoy be as forceful as he was for persuasion; on the other hand, I suspect... Maybe if a few nahua converts were added to his troops, that could help. Keep them under control, etc.

So far, I have planned Cortes reprimanding Alvarado by stripping him of his command when he and his men pillaged the local Maya temples in Cozumel: his men meanwhile are under the personal command of Cortes. In OTL, he decided not to punish him too harshly because he was popular amongst the expeditionary force.

If Cortes doesn't trust Alvarado with keeping his grummy hands off Maya gold, he can't trust him with holding a city. I suspect Cortes restraining his soldiers to committ atrocities against the local natives would probably give him lots of respect among the natives (though I'm sure his own men will start hating him for it).
