Any chance for a pre-1948 Isreal?

Is there any chance for a pre-1948 Israel to be founded?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but if I post it in the post-1900 forum, then I'm limiting the possibilities, so I posted here.

Keep in mind this Israel doesn't have to exist in the Holy Land. There were talks of a Victorian Hebrew Uganda. Nevertheless is there any plausible scenario that an Israel can be formed before 1948?

extra credit to those who can do it but still keep the rest of the world very familiar

You could try the Zionist Uganda TL. It has an earlier Israel, and a recognizable world. Search the Timelines forum, and you'll find it.

Napoleon

Napoleon outlawed anti-semitic discrimination in France. I could see him during his Egyptian campaign setting up a Jewish state to gain the support of local Jews and preserve his influence should he be forced to leave.

Why would French Jews want to be kicked out of their own country?

Where did you get that from:confused::confused: I never said anything like that:eek::eek:

What I was saying is that Napoleon was more tolerant of Jews. He ended the second class citizenship that hadn't even ended under the revolution.

I was suggesting that Napoleon at a stage during his Egyptian campaign might find it advantageous to create a Jewish state, maybe to support his dwindling army.

The Peel Commission or similar commissions could have led to the creation of one before World War II.

That's my all-time favorite TL too. It's great, and it plots out a MUCH better world than what we have now......:)

It may be a bit of an implausible idea, but what if the Mongols would have become firmly entrenched in the Middle East (at least for a while), and would allow, and perhaps even encourage the Jews to settle in Palestine?

This idea may not be as bizarre or implausible as it may initially seem; in the Il-Khanate, Jews were quite powerful and influential for a fairly small minority, and the Il-Khanate had a few very influential Jewish grand viziers, like Sa'ad ad-Daula and Rashid ad-Din (allthough the latter was a convert to Islam).

Settling Jews in Palestine, or at least putting Jews in charge of that province would certainly piss off the Crusaders.

But in OTL, a few unfortunate incidents had resulted in quite a bit of distrust between the Mongols and the Crusaders, and I can imagine that the Mongols don't want the influence of the Crusaders to become too strong in the Levant - especially in an important holy site like Jerusalem.

It would fit quite nicely in the divide-and-rule policy of the Mongols.

And putting Jews in charge of Palestine could also be a decent compromise; even if the Mongol rulers of the Il-Khanate don't become Islamized, they still have to handle the very large Muslim population of their empire.

And Jerusalem still is a holy site for both Christians and Muslims, and letting Jewish governors rule Jerusalem and Palestine could very well be one of the most acceptable (but by no means preferable) solutions for both sides.

I think Napoleon did some stupid things, but none THAT stupid. Jewish population in Palestine at that time wasn't even near 10%.
