Western culture and Confucian culture have diametrically opposed attitudes towards honoring the names of the senior/superior/revered/feared.
In the West, sharing a name with a monarch/saint/ancestor/parent/etc. is fashionable.
In Confucian cultures, names of monarchs and some other hierarchs were ineffable within their respective jurisdictions: any mention of their names, verbal or written, was forbidden, let alone being their namesakes. To name offspring after father/forefather was also out of the question. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naming_taboo
What if the antipathy to namesakes also became a cultural phenomenon in Europe? What would be its impact on European naming traditions?
Including baptismal names, regnal names, patronymics, metronymics, etc.
