Another TL-191 thread- what of OTL WWII heroes ?

OK, just been thinkin, how would you guys picture, in the tl-191 universe, the presence of men from our OTL, such as the men of Easy Coy in BAND OF BROTHERS, or the US Marines in THE PACIFIC ? Like say, if Dick Winters, Lewis Nixon, Joe Liebgott, Ron Speirs, Buck Compton, Bill Guarnere, George Luz, David Webster, Frank Perconte & other Yankees from BoB were perhaps tl-191 US airborne troops involved in the jump on Lookout Mountain- what roles would the Southern-born members of Easy Coy have had- such as Bull Randleman, Popeye Wynn or Col. Robert Sink ? How bout also John Basilone as a US Marine involved in ops in Baja California, with Eugene Sledge as a CS Marine involved in amphib ops in the Caribbean ? Maybe further Chuck Yeager as CS fighter ace in his Hound Dog vs the US's Robin Olds in his Wright 27 ?

When you have a POD as big as a surviving CSA, the huge swarm of butterflies such an event would produce would seem to make it unlikely that these people would even exist. I could swallow a few of them in the TL-191 series... Pershing, TR, Custer, etc. But throwing in Patton just annoyed me to no end...

Most likely none of them ever exist. Though I thought Turtledove was going to throw in Lieutenant Winters in during that paratrooper scene. I think those books would have been alot better if they still potrayed those guys that you follow for 10 books, but he should have thrown in 1 hit wonders, guys who we only see during scenes where something important is happening. Like Lt. Winters during the paratrooper scene.

About butterflies: This is Turtledove. He recreated WW1 and WW2 between the USA and CSA. Since when is he going to care about people survining in altered forms?

Butteflies? What series did you read?

I found out something the other day I didn't know; Nathan Bedford Forrest III was a real person OTL (i.e., I had previously thought Turtledove made up that persona). IRL, Forrest III was an USAAF General in WW2.

What about the Confederate Plantation owner who hid black citizens from the police during Featherstone's regime?

I mean a schindlers list's type of movie? Made by who?

I forgot his name, but are you referring to the individual Morrell spoke to in In at the Death?

yes. Don't you think that would a huge hit around the world?

Depends on whether or not the "population reduction" of TL-191 gets the same sort of attention and moral reflection as the Holocaust OTL.

Considering this is a Turtledove work and events in North America go largely the way events OTL Europe did, I would guess so.

yeah, I recall that white plantation owner, but I'd very much hesitate to call him a TL-191 version of Schindler, on account of his desire (as portryaed in the book) to only protect the black families who'd served his family for geenrations, not caring bout any other blacks who were subject to the Population Reductions- at least Schindler, however reluctantly, did hire more Jewish workers for his factory on what became eventually very flimsy pretxts for 'skilled workers' :)
