So, what if Britain had bought the Nighthawk at either of these potential PoDs? The effects would likely be very different depending on whether they decide to get on-board in '86 or in the 90s. It seems that during the first attempt to sell the Nighthawk, Britain was being offered the baseline F-117A. In the 90s, however, Britain was being offered the proposed F-117B, itself based upon the proposed naval variant being pitched to the US Navy. The F-117B would have a number of improvements, giving the projected aircraft better handling, twice the range, and twice the payload of the baseline F-117A. However, (according to the linked article, at least) the USN's rejection of the F-117N effectively doomed the F-117B.
