Another Nation Supporting Maximillian I of Mexico?

Some European nations have thought of controlling Mexico due to the chaos it had endured. However, let's say that was not France. Which other nation would be the candidate? I was thinking of Britain because of maybe trying to contain the US or Austria because the crown prince came from there lol. Thinking of Spain because they want to revive their former power.

So what do you think, and would they have done better or worse?

When I think of the whole Mexican adventure, I highly doubt it would recieve any support other than France. Europe saw it as a French puppet state.

Granted, Great Britain would support it if the United States pissed them off enough. Austria might support them because it's a Hapsburg. Spain? Probably not, I don't know if Spain recognized Mexico at that point, but unless they were willing to use Mexico as a springboard to start interfering in the affairs of the Americas, which would not amuse the British...

Then you have the Belgians (the Empress did get some Belgian support), the Egyptian Khedive (though they were largely a vassal of the Ottomans, and whatever European power was interested at the time), and the three powers that recognized the Empire, Guatemala (too small to really bring any support), Brazil (which would be dealing with Paraguay and Argentina to bring any support) and Russia (which I doubt would want to help a Hapsburg).

After that, I doubt it...

Spain and Great Britain initially supported the French intervention, which had been prompted by the Juarez government's suspension of interest payments. Mexico owed Spain and Britain, too. They pulled out when they realized that France intended to take over the country; perhaps different governments in London and Madrid would have continued to participate.
