What if Thomas Dewey won in 1948 against Truman?, simple enough. But here's where it (hopefully) gets interesting. Taft and other GOP Old Guards split from the Republican Party, creating a Conservative Third Party. The Democrats transform into a Fiscally Liberal, Socially Conservative Party. The GOP goes Social Liberal, and Economic Moderate, and the Conservatives go Social Conservative, Economic Conservative.
The three parties consistently don't get 270 electoral votes, so eventually, a constitutional amendment is passed making the EV's needed down to a simple plurality.
The Dems get the South, the GOP gets the Northeast and California, and the Conservatives get the West.
So, What do ya think?
