Another Dragobscure POD: Issac Comnenus not being imprisoned by Richard

In 1191 the fiancée and the sister of the English King Richard I Lionheart were shipwrecked on Cyprus and were taken captive by Isaac. In retaliation Richard (whom Niketas calls "King of the Inglines") conquered the island while on his way to Tyre. Isaac was taken prisoner near Cape St. Andreas on the Karpass Peninsula, the northernmost tip of the island. According to tradition, Richard had promised Isaac not to put him into irons, so he kept him prisoner in chains of silver. Isaac was turned over to the Knights of St. John, who kept him imprisoned in Margat near Tripoli. Upon Richard I's return to Europe from the Third Crusade, he was imprisoned by Leopold V, Duke of Austria and Henry VI, Holy Roman Emperor. As part of Richard I's ransom agreement, Isaac and his daughter were freed into the care of Leopold V, Duke of Austria,[1] for Leopold was the son of Theodora Comnena, Isaac's aunt.[2]

So what changes if Issac Comnenus doesn't take them captive and receives them well, keeping them in his care until Richard arrives. What changes with Cyprus remaining an independent state under Issac's rule?

It's not going to remain an independent state. Richard will just make him his puppet instead of installing someone else and if Isaac goes back on his word, death.

Not necessarily all that much, though it depends on what Isaac's plans are.

Isaac or a son of his (does he have issue?) seizing the throne of Constantinople before 1204 would be interesting.

MNP: Will that (puppet statedom) last that long though? Richard only being in the area for a couple years and all.

Pardon me but my history of Cyprus is a little rusty due to Ubisoft fiction but didn't Richard basically hand over the island to the Templars who then handed it over to the rulers of Jerusalem?

If the Crusade proceeds at all like OTL, he is going to make damn sure Cyprus is reliable. Maybe some sort of deal with Genoa or Venice+Knights. They'll be left on Cyprus as guests to ensure his good behavior. Long term he might try to kick them off though, I'm not sure.

Would it make much of a difference if an independent Cyprus lasts long enough to effect where the Lusignan dynasty goes once Jerusalem and the Levantine Crusader states have been sweeped away?
