Even then, I think, whatever gains he makes will be given up once the British apply diplomatic pressure on the Russian government.

It just costs the British too much to have a border with Russia in Central Asia. They'd apply almost any means available to prevent it.

It seemed like they came pretty close though? Even if was a short insignificant conflict it would ruin the Entente. So no matter what the size it would seriously effect the way things happened.
