Anglo-Mexican Alliance

What if Britain allied Mexico during the Oregon Crisis and the Mexican American war? Would the US back down? Could Mexico use this time to industrialize and rival the US or would the US risk a war against Britain and Mexico and how would the other powers other react?

The US waits 5 minutes until the British diplomatics efforts disappear in the puff of smoke coming out of the barrels of the circular firing squad that was early 19th century Mexican politics. The various coup and constant anti centeralization efforts meant no government could last long enough to project any threat without the homefront collapsing around their ears, and if they tried their political rivals would use the moment (likely supported by the Americans) to impliment their own "Plan of X"

Unless Britain is willing to prop Santa Anna up like the French tried to do with Maxy, which would be a huge money sink and distraction for little concrete gain, than they don't get much. If that is the case, than they don't back down , Oregon remains contested legally while they win the settlement game, and they imposr the demand for 54 40 as they wait for Britain to blink due to needing to put out fires somewhere else in her world spanning empire.

I hear India is getting a little testy over planned reforms to use animal fat on bullets

So basically we need an earlier pod for a different Mexico. Maybe a brazilian style royal court transplant?

So lets Imagine Britain supported Santa Anna. Could a united Mexico defeat the US with British help. If they wom there, wouln't be an american west coast. This means no Meji restauration in Japan.

No, because the US would have the active support of the opponents of the puppet regeime who would control large swaths of territory outside the core. The Mexicans would be stuck playing whack-a-mole against Autonimist movements and rebel generals, to say nothing of the natives they already had trouble with IOTL.

No... they aren't asking for annexation. They're just more annoyed with a far harsher, frequent, and immediate repression close to home by their own petty tyrants: the fact their skin happens to be of a similar hue means as much as a bucket of spit. Especially if said domestic despite are crafting policies to toady up to the Brits.
