The idea that the United Kingdom should cooperate with a strong Germany against the USSR was an idea growing in popularity among a large percentage of the British public and the Royal Family (though they would not be politically involved or important in the forming of the alliance). What if Parliament was more pro-German and went through with an alliance with Germany? I once read that the British weren't too happy about the Franco-Soviet Alliance and felt the Soviet Union was more of an enemy than Germany. I also read that Hitler actually sought an alliance with the United Kingdom, as the strong naval check against the Soviets. With the Anglo-German Alliance, Hitler would probably still cooperate with China, as he wouldn't need the Japanese at all. France would now have to tolerate Soviet moves against Finland, Poland, and Romania, as it lost its ally to Germany and would do anything to oppose Germany. I think if war broke out, Germany and the United Kingdom would fight the USSR but Germany would be on its own against France. What of China, Italy, and Japan? China had a deal with the Soviet Union but still cooperating with Germany would probably keep it neutral. I know with France and the United Kingdom on opposite sides, the United States would assuredly stay neutral. Would Italy join the Anglo-German camp, even though they coveted British colonies or simply stay neutral? Would Japan join the Franco-Soviet camp or simply choose no side and fight the parallel Pacific War? Thoughts?
