Anglo-French union

If such a union was achieved and maintained post-war, I can see it being much more confident and, dare I say it, more militant. Suez might be somewhat different for a start. I can also see Vietnam being handled differently, perhaps more like Malaya. Whether it succeeds is another question.

I have always seen the proposed union as less of a political entity and more of a way to take control of the French military after France surrendered.

Britain wouldn't do that. Why bother I mean the foreign legion sure but French troops Nah

Actually, it could evolve instead into an earlier eec,eu.

I agree its unlikely to last as a purely anglofrench nation.

That too.

It does set a better precedent for things of that nature.

But a union born out of desperation and a feeling that there might be no other way out probably won't last after the war ends.

Fighting against one of the worst regime in earth history and enduring harship together might create link between the two country. Well I believe it could endure but then again I am an optimist.

The Union is unlikely to continue after the war ends. However, some kind of EU style organization is likely to be formed as a replacement that contains Britain, France, and the Benelux countries, and which eventually expands.

It depends, since it will become obvious during the war years that both France and Britain need each other if they want to stand a chance in the post war world. This could therefore spur a political union of some kind, especially as such schemes were fashionable at the time. The resulting political structyre will likely be a compromise and steroids and have upsides and downsides, which could tear the Union apart very early on, or spur reforms down the line.

Okay what would happen if this union continued after the war

The British royal family become the french royal family

This won't ever happen for way too many reasons to say, starting from the fact that republicanism is too entrenched in France by that point in time.
I can see the British Royal Family promoting links but nothing more. As it stands Queen Elisabeth did a good job at promoting said links OTL.

France joins the commonwealth

The Commonwealth will be a very different creature compared to OTL in my timeline, to the extent that it will have very little in common with OTL Commonwealth. What I think is highly likely to happen under a post war Union scenario, is that the ideas of the Commonwealth and the European Community converge to a great extent.
The resulting organisation would be a mixture of the ECC and the Commonwealth, a huge free trade and cooperation zone encompassing members as diverse as Australia, Canada, Belgium, The Netherlands and Norway.

French colonies join he commonwealth along with France

If the "Commonwealth" becomes a closely tight organisation this stands no chance of happening, unless the colonies become associate members of sorts, gaining further rights after a certain amount of time and development levels have been reached.

French government separate from westminster
The two states are now equals

Given the differences between France and the UK, we can even safely expect both governments to survive in a recognisable form, while part of the Union.

Armed forces are joined

It won't happen during the war expect at the Army or Army Corps level. After the war it will happen, but significant differences will remain between the French and the British parts of the Army/Navy. You simply can't go over centuries of tradition and start from scratch ...
For the Airforces on the other hand, the process should be MUCH easier. Consequently the Union Air France could become the most "mixed" service branch.

How will the world react
How will decolonisation be affected
How will future wars be affected

My own research and thinking is to learn towards the Union being seen as an "interesting experiement" during the fifties abroad and not to be taken too seriously in consequence. In the eyes of the Americans/Soviets there are simply too many problems the Union has to solve internally to matter externally.

Decolonisation will be different from OTL and France in particular will avoid the sores of Indochina and Algeria. Still, losing the "Empires" will have an impact of its own and force the Union to "be seen" in a different way.

The way I am seeing things going is that as it becomes apparent during the late fifties that the Union has to sort out its internal troubles and find an alternative to colonial Empires, or else fade as a power of any importance. Some kind of "Gaullism on steroids" emerges in the Union, who in addition to sorting out the internal constitutional issues, also makes it clear to the world and the rivals like the USSR/USA that the Union is here to stay and will consequently "live up to the heritage of the French and British nations".

This could become a huge source of tensions of all kinds. Economically the Union has the potential to become a huge rival to the USA in all of its markets and segments. In my TL I will reveal that while the USA will have Coca Cola and McDonalds as per OTL. The Union will TTL have an answer to both of these. The Americans may come up with say a colour TV format, the Union will come up with its own "better" one. The Americans have invented something called a "PC". We the Union have the "IP" (Individual Computer) that's "better"! An American, has gone into space! Then a Frenchman/Briton will follow him soon enough, since "our engineers are the best"!.

Flashpoints might end up being more numerous than OTL world actually. While things like Viet-Nam can't happen in such a TL. The Union deciding to say unilateraly make Hong Kong an integral member state of the Union just like France, the United Kingdom and Malta. Could lead to a lot of tensions and even armed conflicts.

I am inclined to say that a somewhat "neutral" design would be chosen myself. I have a slight idea of a red and blue cross (red and blue lines crossed maybe?) against a white background, with possibly the French and Britisg flags occupying the upper corners.

Regardless the French and British flags would retain official status in their respective homelands.
