Hi, I've been lurking around here awhile, I've always been fascinated by history, and in a big way understanding how things might have gone, helps us understand how and why things happened. That and there's a strong desire to rewrite history the way it should have happened .
Anyway, I saw an article on the BBC awhile back reporting on secret documents that outlined a French 1950's proposal to marry France and Britain. Obviously this was rejected, but what if it hadn't been? It's fascinating because it changes the entire internal political situation and structure of France and Britain, but would also change the shape of Europe. What would the Anglo-French state look like? With Britain's concentration on Naval power, being an island, and France's concentration on Land power, what would the armed forces look like? How would Europe react? The failure of the plan led France in to founding the Common Market, which became the European Union, and forging close ties through those organisations with the Germans. If France and Britain unified, would it be the beginning of a European Federalised State?
