Anglo-French Great War

Ideally this ATL WW1 would occur in the same time frame as OTL WW1, but I figured this most certainly required a pre-1900 POD.

What would require this to happen, with a POD no later than, perhaps, 1885?

The other great powers would/should obviously be involved

Fashoda Incident would be your best PoD, I'm thinking. Let's say the De Bonchamps Expedition makes to Fashoda on time and meets up with Jean-Baptiste Marchand's force, making Marchand much less willing to compromise with the British. When Kitchener arrives, the two colonial forces come to blows, likely with the French losing. Tensions rise, but war doesn't occur--the French remain bitter. Eventually a war?

I'm just spitballing, but I think that might be a good idea.

Peace of Amiens lasts; First Empire stabilizes and the Franco-British (Anglo-French) contest for dominance of Europe and the looming age of imperialism is the dominant geostrategic issue of the Nineteenth Century...

By the second decade of the Twentieth, the long-expected war is looming between the two great empires and their allies/surrogates..."some damn thing in the Balkans" starts it off, and within weeks, the two great alliances have mobilized and war breaks out around the globe...

Emperor Napoleon V and King Arthur II are both constitutional monarchs, but the opposition in both parliaments is happy enough to support le grand guerre/the great war against our enemies!

Best,
