How different would our societies have been had the Second World War lasted to say 1950?
(I do not want to go into too much detail but I picture maybe Hitler keeping Stalin as a sympathetic neutral, no Manhatten project and maybe someone sane running Japanese policy in Korea with earlier industrialization and thus better production.)
As I see it in OTL both Britain and the US there were Welfare State elements in the way the war economy was run. Plus there was a very different role for women.
How much further could these have gone? Would there have been a reaction of going back to 'normalcy'
I am of course assuming that the war ends with defeat for both Germany and Japan
