To start with, I'm not advocating genocide here (what with this being CalBear's fictional story and all), but having read the most recent updates the question has come to me again and again as Europe gets more and more destroyed by the Nazis even as defeat is staring at them in the face. I've noticed that other posters have been asking it as well occasionally. So the question is: what if the Anglo-Americans had decided to build up their nuclear arsenal so that they could destroy Nazi Germany's capability to wage war in one, swift stroke, The Big One -style (without the immortal demons and Kratman-level politics:rolleyes:), in order to make the liberation of Europe easier?

In Stuart Slade's The Big One Strategic Air Command drops 200 atomic bombs (if I recall the figure correctly) on Germany in 1947, with Düren having the dubious honour of being that TL's first city to be nuked. The primary purpose targets are industry and infrastructure, but in effect every German city with a population greater than 5,000 is targeted, with 10 bombs allocated for Berlin alone. The end result is 20,000,000 Germans killed in the bombing itself, with another 40,000,000 perishing in the aftermath as the German state is effectively destroyed.

With the Waffen SS having forces all over occupied Europe and the former USSR, how would the destruction of Germany affect them, now that they would be unable to receive any material and reinforcements from their homeland? How would the various occupied nations react?
