Hand washing is a rather simple solution to many (MANY) medical problems that a lot of Europeans faced. Apparently people outside the Roman Empire (I remember the Germans and Celts being mentioned, in particular) used soap, but mostly for washing their hair. So, my question is, what if, around the 3rd century, widespread hand-washing (with soap) is introduced throughout the Roman Empire? How much would change?
