Ancient Greek colonies that could have been.

Here's a better map of colonies:

Po is unlikely. That's in the Etruscan sphere. They already were beginning colonization of the area, and then of course the Gauls pushed in and overran most of the northern colonies.

Βενετία ! Perfect according to Mongo's theory. Reachable. Protected from the Celts. OK, it's only a trade post: not much agricultural hinterland. And then there is malaria...

The Greeks did manage to set up a lasting colony in Ancona, more or less two thirds of the way up the Adriatic coast of Italy. The name of the city is straightforward Greek, it means "elbow", from the shape of the coast where the original town was founded.

Greek traders also were allowed to live in the Etruscan city of Spina, near the mouth of the Po river and really close to the location of modern Venice, so the town's culture was heavity influenced by Greek civilization. Research referenced to in the linked Wiki article suggests that Spina's population might have been Hellenized.

Other possible sites for Greek colonies: Dubrovnik and Split. In the case of Dubrovnik, the Wiki article links to references about a possible Greek settlement there earlier than expected, so although it's not certain it might be plausible. Both sites have the configuration that Greek colonists like, with easily defensible islands to settle on and a reasonably fertile interior to farm, and tribes to trade with. But these tribes could be more actively hostile and try to occupy them.

This is what I was referring to.
I'll add that there are references to severale Greek colonies in central Illyria. Wikipedia mentions Issa and Lissos, and there should have been others.
