anarchy in Spain

does anyone here think it is possible for the anarchists (libertarian socialists as many like to call themselves) to come out on top of the SPanish Civil War?

I would say no. Fighting a war -even a civil war- is something that can be done best if you have a state doing it.
If you haven´t got a state, you need an organisation with STRICT DISCIPLINE in all the aspects of fighting and organizing the lifes of the SUBJECTS. (War production, food production, distribution, social issues.)

So my basic point is: The anarchists need to carefully avoid any policy that makes them anarchists to have a chance.

The anarchists are not only hated by the forces of Traditional spain, but also by the socialist parties, and the moscovitian communists.

So it doesn´t quite matter who wins, the winner will take out the anarchists as soon as possible.

they were actually very successful in their restructuring of spanish society. one example used is that two days after taking control in...barcelona? they got the trams running more efficiently w/ 100 more cars, cheaper fairs and more pay for drivers and the other workers. one of their major failures, i think, was that they didn't automatically start to dismantle the State in the areas they controlled, instead relying on it as an ally against Franco...

Getting the trains to run, even getting the industries to run in a short period of time, let´s say half a year, is achievable even for anarchists.

Here comes the difference if you believe that you need a state or tight organisation to fight a war or not.

there is a tight organization. just not a 'state'. anarchy is order (A w/ O symbol.) ummm. another example of an almost anarchyst 'state' would be the ukraine during the russian revolution. they stood up to the soviets alright and were pretty successful. i dunno, my bias may slant my historical views....
