An Ungern von Sternberg timeline?

So, I've found myself interested in wanting to write a timeline about this crazy, awesome, unfathomable maniac, but I'm not exactly sure what would work best.

I'm asking for your opinions, then. What sort of POD and what sort of timeline would work best to, essentially, make an Ungern von Sternberg wank? I don't necessarily want to see him take over the world or anything like that, I just want him to live longer so that I can put him in as many BADASS and HOT BLOODED scenes are humanly possible.

There was one a while ago where thanks to his efforts the German empire is restored and the Soviet Union is crushed, quite epic reading.

Maybe just focus on his career in a "Whites win" TL, like a biography written in this ATL? Maybe a White Russia goes for another round with Japan fifteen or eighteen years later and he commands a theater.

This video game will teach you everything.

As a starting point, how about Ungern von Sternberg becomes Supreme Ruler of Siberia in 1918 instead of Kolchak?

Supposedly Kolchak's takeover was orchestrated by General Knox, Britain's liaison with the Omsk government. He could easily have picked someone other than Kolchak, and Ungern would be an interesting (if unlikely) alternative. One advantage that he had over Kolchak is that, unlike the latter, he was on good terms with Semenov and the Japanese army, so supplies should have made it to Ungern von S. through eastern Siberia much more of the time than they did to Kolchak in OTL.

You'd be much more likely to see Semenov given that position than Sternberg. He was more senior and considered much more reliable. Of course, Sternberg being his favorite dog on a chain, he too would be given positions of authority that could srpingboard him into all new adventures..

Semenov as Supreme Ruler doesn't fit the thread premise, though.

Sternberg was a dark horse, known at the time only for his courage and cool nerves under pressure. Semenov, by contrast, had ruled Transbaikalia for a few months by late 1918. It was long enough for people in Omsk to have realized what a villain he was.

Also, if Kolchak declined the role himself but had a voice in the selection of ruler, he would have used it against Semenov. They already hated each other (mostly Kolchak's fault, it should be said, for interfering with Semenov's supply lines when Kolchak was in the far east).
