Maria of Sicily, after the death of her father decided to find a husband for her own in order to strengthen Sicily, she was careful and fast in choosing a husband and chose to marry Theodore of Montferrat, the son of Isabella of Montferrat choosing a husband was sure hard for her because she decided against marrying to the Viscontis, Theodore bestowed back the dignity of the Island as a Roman land, the two were married on 1380.

After their marriage Theodore of Montferrat became the King of Sicily, Neopatria and Athens and also assumed ambitioned to rule Mainland Sicily.

Before, Joanna of Naples died on 1380, Catherine of Naples was already married to Louis, Duke of Anjou on 1360, as an order of Joanna of Naples.

On 1382, the Hungarian King Charles II decided to conquer Naples while Catherine of Naples was busy focusing on Provence but in the end everything was in vain and Naples remained under the rule of Catherine of Naples, however, due to the excommunication of Joanna of Naples, Theordore I of Sicily talked to the pope in order for the Kingdom of Naples to be annexed by the King of Sicily.

Theodore of Montferrat took the titles Catapan of Italy, Duke of Benevento, Duke of Spoleto, King of Sicily, Despot of Neopatria and Athens and others after meeting the pope.

He decided to conquer Naples for his own wife who wanted to unite the Kingdom of Sicily in order for it to become one Kingdom.

He annexed the weak Kingdom of Naples from Queen Catherine of Naples forcing the Anjous out of Sicily was an easy task for the Palaiologos, however that would only be the start because the King of France and the Duke of Provence would try every thing to conquer the new incarnation of Rome.

Meanwhile the King of Poland granted Wladyslaw the Saint(b. 1355), the eldest son and heir of Wladyslaw Opolczyk the Duke of Opole-Raciborz was made a seneschal and marshal of the King of Poland, he is the first cousin of the Polish King, he had good relations with the king so it was natural for the King to give titles to him, he was a favorite of the Polish King while Charles II the King of Hungary died on 1385 childless, causing Algierd, the son of Jogaila of the newly converted King of Lithuania to be the King of Hungary, starting the Jagellonian dynasty of Hungary.

The love between Maria and Theodore of Sicily did bloom and they had children as well.
