An MLB Collaborative TL: Piece of Cake: The Cubs win Game 6 in '03

There is no lottery. They did the lottery for Crosby because there was no season.

In TTL the Penguins get Ovechkin. If they still lose next season to a strike and the Pens win the lottery, this is going to be a Penguins wank.
There is still a NHL draft lottery, it was introduced in 1995, I believe. So that means Ovechkin's draft rights are still up in the air.

April 5, 2004: The 2004 NCAA March Madness championship game. Coming in as the favorite, Arizona came out of the gate slow, making just 2 of their first 10 shots to start the night with Kentucky being better, starting out 6 of 11 for the early double-digit lead. Arizona would, however, limit Kentucky star Erik Daniels to just one of those Kentucky baskets. Both teams continued on an even pace for the rest of the first half, with Kentucky maintaining their lead, albeit it was only 39-31 at the break. But once the second half began, the tide began to shift in favor of Arizona as evidenced by two three-pointers by Salim Stoudamire on back-to-back possessions to start the second half. Arizona would continue to scratch and claw with Kentucky still doing whatever they could to hold their lead. With just 2 minutes left, Kentucky held a 5-point lead when Daniels went up for a layup, but at the last second, Andre Iguodala blocked it, got the rebound to Stoudamire, and just seconds later, Channing Frye hit a 3 to cut the lead to 2. On the next possession, Daniels made just his third basket of the game to make the lead 4 for Kentucky before Iguodala made a layup to once again cut the lead. As we went into the final minute, it was still a 2 point game. With only 47 seconds left, Cliff Hawkins was called for foul on Frye. The foul was very controversial, as Hawkins didn't appear to be holding Frye. Frye made both free throws to tie it up. Kentucky had a chance however on the ensuing possession but could not convert, setting up Arizona with a chance to win it with 20 seconds left. But Kentucky was ready, fouling Hassan Adams with 14 seconds left, Adams would make the first, but miss the second half, giving Arizona their first lead all night. In even better news for Arizona, Iguodala would get an offensive rebound after the second free throw and would be fouled. Iguodala would also go 1-for-2, giving Kentucky once last chance to win it. Then came one of the most controversial moments in NCAA tournament history.

Jim Nantz: "13 seconds left, can Kentucky do it? Daniels dribbling it, 9 seconds, 8, 7, 6, looks like he'll take the last shot with 3, 2, he passes it to Azubuike for the win! (buzzer) He made it, Azubuike made i-

Billy Packer: "They're saying no basket Jim!"

Jim Nantz: "Oh wow, they're gonna have to review this! It looked like he made it live, but you never know. "

Both sides were celebrating as if they won the National Championship. When slowed down, it looked like the ball had just barely left Kelenna Azubuike's hands as the buzzer sounded. But the officials, Dick Cartmell and Randy McCall, after looking at the play for almost 5 minutes, decided that the basket did not count, thus Arizona had won the game and the Championship. As tourament MVP Andre Iguodala and the Wildcats in while celebrated, the Wildcats in blue could only walk off the court in stunned disbelief.
Ooof what a heartbreaking ending!

I have a serious Mandela effect going on here. I don't ever remember hearing about the NHL lottery and I always remembering the must have player going to the worst team.

that did was, but i thought the lottery was much later, like in 2005. Urinatingtree did mention the tank job the penguins did for Super Mario Lemieux

How to Start a Officiating controversy far earlier too

Rockies are hot, Chalmers to the Champs, and a simple comparison
April 9, 2004: The Cardinals head to Denver to take on the Rockies at Coors Field. The game starts out with a bang, with So Taguchi hitting a home run on the very first pitch of the game from Jeff Francis. However, that would be the last run for both sides for quite some time, as Francis and Cardinals pitcher Woody Wilson both trade zeros for 7 innings, with Wilson having a perfect game going until the sixth when Brad Hawpe got an infield single. In the eight, the Colorado bullpen falters as St. Louis gets 4 runs on 6 hits to take a 5-0 lead. But in the bottom half of the inning, a switch flipped as Vinny Castilla hit a home run to get the Rockies on the board. Then, Charles Johnson smacked a homer of his own to make it 5-2, knocking Williams out of the game in the process. The score, however, would hold up till the ninth with Colorado still down by 3. The first batter of the inning, Larry Walker, would hit a double, followed by a walk to Matt Holliday. After Castilla struck out, Hawpe would also walk. On the next at bat, with the count 0-2, Garrett Atkins proceeded to crush Steve Kline's pitch into dead center for a walk off grand slam to win it for the Rockies, who surprisingly start the year 5-0.

April 10, 2004: Star-studded recruit Mario Chalmers announces he will be playing basketball next season at Arizona. This comes following the Wildcats national championship and the Alaska native's desire to stay somewhat close to his family. "They gave me an offer I couldn't refuse." said the five star recruit.

April 11, 2004: A "Sauvez les Expos" (Save the Expos) rally is held in downtown Montreal before the Expos home opener against the Phillies. The rally is attended by about 10,000 Montrealers and people from across La Belle Province in an effort to convince the MLB to keep the Expos in Montreal. Attendees include former Expos Gary Carter, Tim Raines, Andre Dawson and Rusty Staub, all of which receive thunderous cheers upon being introduced. Meanwhile in Minnesota, the Twins start their home schedule against the Orioles in a game that only sees 11,000 at the Metrodome in possibly the last home opener for the Twins in Minnesota as both franchises are in relocation talks.

Olympic news
April 13, 2004: The International Olympic Committee announces that the 2004 Olympics will be baseball’s last one as an Olympic sport. In response, the International Baseball Federation announces a plan for a World Cup-style tournament starting in 2006.

Monaco get two goals on each side of halftime in a 2-0 match win, and a 3-1 aggregate win, sending Deportivo La Coruña home. Wednesdays action is begun with Chelsea losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich, but they don’t care, as their 3-0 win in Munich means a 3-1 aggregate win, and a trip to the Semifinals. Finally, Porto continues their magical run, scoring two first half goals to beat an Arsenal team still reeling from their Premier League loss to Manchester United, moving on via a 2-1 aggregate.

Brunnell is a Giant
APRIL 11th 2004
ESPNEWS ALERT
Alright this is a ESPNEWS breaking news alert Trey Wingo here to tell you that there has been a big trade in the word of the NFL. The Jacksonville Jaguars have traded quarterback Mark Burnell to the New York Giants for a 2004 3rd round pick

This seems to take the newly led Bob Stoops Giants out of running for a quarterback in this month’s draft and it will be interesting to see what that 3rd overall pick now.

I thought they still had Collins. Either way, Brunell’s decent as a stop gap.

In OTL they picked up Kurt Warner in the offseason.

Maybe they'll take CFF and have him apprentice behind Brunell, but Brunell is a little young for that. This opens up the trade possibilities because teams without a good veteran can compete with the Bills (who could offer Bledsoe).

Brunell is already a veteran so a good mentor whatever ends in NY. The draft night will be insane
