An Italy-Like Balkans...Or Iberia...Or Anatolia!

As you surely know, for centuries Italy has been place of divisions between Germans,Spanish,French and Austrians, with great powers dividing the peninsula.
The balkans had a sort of it,but...not the way i mean.I mean indirect control, with direct possessions but also independent states, indirectly relying on their"master"
Could it have been possible to have an Italy-Balkans,Italy-Iberia or Italy-Anatolia?

Well, Italy-Anatolia-Balkans could be done with a surviving Eastern Roman Empire. Italy Iberia could be done I imagine if you keep Spain strong and let them slowly consolidate control of the peninsula.

I'm not sure what you mean by "indirect control" in the case of Italy. It sure seems like a good description of the nineteenth-century Balkans, but it seems to me that most of the foreign-controlled Italian domains were directly ruled.

Italy like means : weak native states with frequent foreign invasion and influence, with common language and culture ?

for Iberia
- southern Iberia during Almoravid and Almohad is controlled by foreign power.
- Taifa and Asturias is native states
- while Barcelona, Portugal and Navarre is influenced by French and English

if they continued to be divided instead marrying each other Italy-like Iberia is large possibility.

for Balkans, they are Italy like for long time
- Greece controlled by Ottoman
- Hungary is influenced heavily by Germans (especially Austria)
- Wallachia, Moldavia and ragusa as independent native states
- Hungary and Albania also sometime become strong native states.

less complete Ottoman conquest might make non-Ottoman influence (Russia, venice, poland and Austria) stronger. Unlike Italy, Balkans didn't have common language however, so strong nationalism later is near impossible.

Annatolia

this one difficult, Northeast could be Georgia controlled, Northwest could be Greece/Constantinople controlled, south could be Arabs/Antioch influenced. but Anatolia plateau and fertile areas in Northwest will give anyone who control it strong advantage to unify the entire pennisula. And Anatolia based states is often strong enough to conquer others (Hittite, Byzantine, Ottoman) so Italy-like is difficult to pull.
