I posted this on the TL Ideas You Have, but lack the wherewithal thread. However, I am going to try and write one anyway. I won't be able to post regularly, but I want to get my feet wet and explore the possibilities. Writing any one of these timelines is going to require a lot of research, but I am certainly up for the challenge. I am highly open to all of your suggestions and ideas. Please do let me know if I need to fix something or change something. I want to write a rich, plausible, and well-detailed timeline. I'd like to explore aspects of how culture varies in these timelines so I'm going to be adding posts about art or contemporary politics if I'm feeling it.

So please cast your votes and write down anything you add to the conversation.

List of Timeline Ideas

1. The Age of Maharajas: a timeline exploring the trajectory of Indian history starting with the failed conquest of Hindustan by a Timurid prince which only prolongs the inevitable collapse of the Lodi Sultanate which leads to North India ruled by an independent Rajput polity coexisting with the Deccan Sultanates and the Vijayanagara Empire. Note: This is not meant to be an Islam-screw or Hindu-wank. I am the only interested in seeing how the Rajputs fare in Northern India and how the Deccan Sultanates deal with being cut off from the rest of the Islamic world.

2. Pax Mysoreana: a timeline where Tipu Sultan is aided by the French in curbing the power of the British East India Company in India, specifically Southern India. Napoleonic France succeeds in its aim of establishing relations with the Indian princes which leads prevents the birth of the British Raj.

3. The Land of the Suris: Humayun's restoration to power fails and the Suris's reign lasts centuries instead of decades. However, their rule is not peaceful. Resentment among both non-Pashtun Muslims and Hindus alike builds as the rule as the Suri Empire's promotion of Pashtun hegemony comes at the expense of all other groups.

Tipu sultan was prime minister of Mysore hindu king who were vessels of vijayanagar empire which does not exist that time .
Hindu king of Mysore never reproduce direct hair due to curse of Vijayanagar last empress .
Dur to Fear for curse shocking that Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali always used to celebrate Ram Navami festival and never sit on Golden Throne of Mysore and does not use any word as surname whose meaning comes king
Curse line-

May Talakad turn into (a barren expanse of) sand, may Malangi turn into a whirlpool, may the Rajas of Mysore not have children (for all time to come).

All three curse come true

Just to add the Mysoreans were doing some very interesting things with Rockets. The British later adopted this technology and later used it in the War of 1812. The very line "rockets' red glare" refers to the British using these very rockets during the War of 1812. So just imagine if the French used these weapons in the Napoleonic Wars..... What a different world.

All three would be brilliant I think- the Rajput one is interesting due to the sheer range of possibilities. One nitpick though, the Deccan sultanates were connected to the Islamic world directly through the sea more than via Hindustan, which is why culturally they were a unique fusion of indian and Iranian independent of the styles and conventions of their northern neighbours. This is still an age where no one expects India to enter an imperial phase and it looks ripe for a much more developed regional outlook to trace the individual fortunes of independent polities across India instead of an imperial focus that tracks one central governments rise and fall.

Pax Mysoreana looks very interesting too, and how the centralised and technologically and bureaucratically advanced southern states interact with their medieval northern neighbours could be very interesting, as well as the shock to the imperialist mindset of Europe when they see asiatic societies more developed than most Europeans. There are so many ways to take this, from an outward looking maritime Mysore that attempts to dominate Indian Ocean trade (perhaps taking Western Australia or bits of Indonesia) to a continentally focused Mysore that positions itself as hegemon of India and perhaps over the next century annexes the majority of the subcontinent. Opium war and nineteenth century imperialism se Asian butterflies also could be fun. I’d also love it if it meant it was also a Napoleon wins tl.

The sur empire one- it could be brilliant but I’m a bit less enthusiastic because we’ve already seen a North Indian hegemon dominate the subcontinent in otl and it may be difficult to significantly differentiate it between Otl.

The Maharajah timeline interests me most simply due to it being about a Hindu empire which there have been none of since before Delhi sultanate(not counting Maratha Confederacy which didn't last that long). The Mysore timeline sounds cool but its just another Muslim polity ruling over majority Hindu population which there have been scores of since the Islamic conquests. Not that I want an Islam screw or anything but another Muslim Indian empire would just be a repeat of last 1000(or so) years.

With a hegemonic Hindu empire ruling from Punjab to Bengal we could see a surviving Majapahit and Hindu/Buddhist south east Asia. Maybe they invade Burma or
Afghanistan. Fun fact a native Indian polity has not once in history invaded outside Indian subcontinent. Also Buddhism might fare batter than it did OTL due to no Islamic invasions. I would be really interested in that timeline if you couldn't tell already.:)

Thank you so much. It means a lot coming from someone writing such a brilliant Indian timeline. I hope that my writing will be able to live up to your compliments.

I specifically wanted to deal with an India without the imperial centralized phase of the Mughals and I wanted to specifically play around with focusing on regional outlooks and "individual fortunes of independent polities" as you mentioned. The purpose for The Age of Maharajas was to specifically deal with exploring regionalism and a resurgent Hindu Rajput North.

Once again, you have correctly identified my reason for a timeline. Preventing Mysore's downfall at the hands of the British and securing Napoleon's support is as much a Mysore timeline as it is a Napoleonic timeline. I don't want to reveal too much if this timeline is selected, but Europe and North America will face butterflies as well. I do want to explore the technological developments that would arise as a result of a strong Franco-Mysorean alliance.

Playing with imperialism and the opium wars will indeed be exceptionally interesting and quite honestly really fun.

With the Suri timeline, I plan on there being a major twist. Rest assured, the Suris won't parallel the Mughals.

If you don't mind, I'd love to get your advice and help on any of these timelines when I start writing one of them. Alamgirnama is one of my favorite timelines

Being choosy between the Age of Maharajas or Mysore. I think Mysore is more interesting. I don't think Mysore gets around much on AH.

It's not every day we get to see more Indian timelines.

I'm stuck between those two as well, but Mysore is close to my heart as I have family from the area. Tipu Sultan is such an interesting three-dimensional historical figure and I would love to write about him regardless of Pax Mysoreana being picked or not.

China will definitely come in to play in all of these timelines, so I'll be looking to you for advice and help. I'm looking forward to the updates in your timeline.

Indian history is so rich, complex, and more connected with the rest of the world than most people think. I'm glad you're looking forward to seeing more Indian timelines.

Thank you, I'm honoured by your words. Truth be told, I'm no history expert myself, I'm a reader than expert but I'll tell you what I know.

Regarding Mysore for your timeline, if things goes right and if Mysore played its' cards right, it might be in good position to rule the whole of India and perhaps replacing the Mughals as an Indian Empire. Looking forward to your TLs.

Long live Mysore. I couldn't wait and after more than 50 votes in total being cast,(amazing !) I decided to pick the winner. Pax Mysoreana has won !!! Be ready to meet history's favorite Corsican too!

All of the above, really. Interested to see what the world is like if Mysore is going strong and not conquered.

I was just reading the thread and was about to vote for Pax Mysoreana.

Alternate scientific and economic development would be cool. Itd be interesting to see Mysore develop as an economic power as well as a military one. The political ramifications of which would be awesome to see!
