An idea looking for a WI: Gore as the Democratic Nixon

I think it would be very interesting to see what would have happened if Gore would have thrown his hat in the ring....If he would have annouced his candidacy on Oscar Night, Feb 27th, 2007, I think it would have catapulted him, with his new found star power to effectivley challenge Hillary & Barack(Who may decide to drop out of the overcrowded race) and once he wins his nobel peace prize, I really don't think he would have a problem in the primaries and might kill Hillary in the Super tuesday primaries.

But I think the interesting thing would be, How many of the supposed "Clinton Loyalists" would have shifted over to Gore's side? How long would it take for Gore to emerge as the Party's frontrunner? Does McCain still win the Gop nomination?

Gore may have been too radical for him to win the Democratic nomination but if he does get the nomination the Republicans might run a more conservative person such as Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney, or Mike Huckabee.

Of course, there is the point that even though Al Gore is not a crazy leftist environmentalist crazy person who wants to institute a Dictatorship of Trees and steal everyone's cars (and their guns, but that goes without saying), many in the right-wing do think that is the case. So that will certainly have an effect on the election...

That's an oxymoron. The Democrats are centre-left to left, the Republicans are centre-right to right.

Gore would be Centre-Left.

Gore is a DLC Dem though- in terms of where he is in the Party, he's in the center. A New Democrat, although thats now a dated term.

And its arguable that most Democrats are center-left. Most come off as just the center.
