An Expanded "HMS Sheefbill" built on Trisian de Cunha 1982.

WILDGEESE

Gone Fishin'
After the British landings in San Carlos in 1982, the British forces built a 850m landing strip using planking from the STUFT vessel the Stromness to act as a F.O.B.

It should've been longer but most of the rest was on the ill fated Atlantic Conveyor.

What if- The British constructed a landing strip on the island of Tristan de Cunha.

Would this be possible in the time frame available?

Would there be enough assets spare (vessels inc STUFT) to send along with the amph-forces to construct one?

With time and assets available, would it allow a bigger airstrip to be set.? ie an airstrip that is big enough for Shackleton AEW's, Tankers and even fast jets such as Phantom's to interdict Argie air raids?

What effect would this have on the landings between the 21st & 25th of May for Britain and Argentina?

Cheers filers.

IUUC there is no port, harbor or even sheltered Anchorage on TdC where heavy equipment, fuel and the like can be landed.

However given the time and resources available perhaps a 4000' strip capable of handling Hercules. If hercs could use TdC that could drastically increase the RAF contribution, perhaps a herc mission as well as a Vulcan or Nimrod per day, rather than a single mission from ascension as per OTL
