An Early POD to Prevent the Sakoku Policy of Tokugawa

From What I heard the Conquest/Purchase of Tondo and its subordinates to Spain is one of the reasons why Japan is pushed into Sakoku, I am thinking if Tondo and its subordinates convert to Islam voluntarily, the native aristocracy there will retain their status and Luzon will be will as or more unconquerable than Mindanao and Japan would be less alarmed and they will be more or less complacent of what is happening around but the consequence is that Japan would be encountering Islam earlier.

It depends the earlier you go their might not be a Tokugawa Shogun which came about by lots of luck. Christianity wasn't tolerated because it could be seen as disruptive, Ieyasu came to the helm of a country that suffered constant warfare, any more disruptions and problems wouldn't be tolerated. Buddhism also had it's problems with the monks in politics, Christianity could have gone the same way.

You could try and look at Ieyasu's relations with the christian missionaries, and try and work from there. Although are we assuming the POD requires a Tokugawa Shogun?

Sakoku was enacted by Ieyasu's grandson, Iemitsu.

The main reason for this policy is to prevent Tokugawa's enemies (the tozama daimyos, in particular) from gaining strength via independent foreign trade. If you want to prevent Sakoku, it requires the Shogunate to have a virtually absolute control over Japan.

I heard that one of the main reasons for Sakoku being implemented was due a Spanish ship with cannons and missionaries on route to the Philippines getting washed up in Japan. Apparantly several sailors and missionaries when being interrogated started boasting about how they would conquer Japan and that the Christians would be backing them. I can imagine that thought would scare quite a few people.

An independent Luzon could be a buffer state between Japan and Spanish East Indies, I think.
