Which is most plausible? I'd like to go into more detail about an alternate, earlier Star Trek, but first I want to know what you guys think.
1. Star Trek, 1951-1955. Producer, Robert Heinlein. Writers included Asimov, Blish, Clarke, Kuttner, et al.
2. Star Trek, 1951-1958. Producer, Ray Harryhausen.
James T. Kirk: Kerwin Mathews, who was the lead in "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad". Or, Charlton Heston, or Leslie Nielsen (this was long before he started making wacky comedies).
Spock: Sidney Poitier. In this AH, all Vulcans are played by black actors and actresses. Other possibilities are William Marshall, James Earl Jones.
McCoy: Ernest Borgnine. He resembles DeForest Kelly, and that "Borg" connection...
Uhura: Dorothy Dandridge, Cicely Tyson, etc.
3. Star Trek, 1955-1975, a variety show. The title suggests both Hollywood stars and stars in the sky. The game shows of the late 50s were considerably more highbrow, and Star Trek might have been a more highbrow variety show, with short skits based on scenarios suggested by scientists. The first episodes could have had Albert Einstein on the show.
4. Star Trek, 1955-1959, the variety show doesn't last as long.
5. Star Trek, 1960-1970, produced by Irwin Allen, Ivan Tors and Ray Harryhausen, with Dick York, Dick Sargent, Guy Williams.
6. Star Trek, 1960-1964, Irwin Allen.
7. Star Trek, 1964-1968
Frank Sinatra as Kirk.
Sammy Davis, Jr. as Spock
Joey Bishop as McCoy
Dean Martin as Scott
Nancy Kwan as the communications officer
8. Star Trek, 1964-1988, produced by Gene Coon, D.C. Fontana, written by various SF writers of the period. Gene Roddenberry is not involved in this or any of the other versions of Star Trek listed here.
In this version, Paul Fix plays Captain Robert April for five years, then leaves the show. Jeffrey Hunter plays Captain Pike for five years, then is replaced by James Doohan as Captain Kirk. Then Roger Moore is Captain Jean-Luc Picard. By then spinoffs are planned, with starship captains played by Cicely Tyson, France Nuyen, George Lopez and others.
George Lopez is a comedian, but that's OTL, and he looks to me a lot more like a captain than Scott Bakula.
I forgot to add one more option in the poll, in case you didn't like any of them much.
Also, I'd like to point out the scenario you find most thrilling isn't necessarily the most plausible!
