An alternate Mauryan empire in India.

The Muaryan empire was the first and largest empire in India, under Chandragupta Muarya the empire established it's self and even took advantage of the daiochi war to conquer Indus Valley and Eastern Persia modern day Afghanistan, it was a military power until after the kalinga war when the emperor Ashoka decided to take the empire through a period of pacifism and "wasted" the national treasury on public programs rather on a strong and capable military. He was later succeeded by a string of incapable ruler which led to the empire collapsing and different regions declaring independence with the emperors unable to quell these repels.

So let's say he never went on a philanthropic spree and followed the mold of his predecessors and other general emperors at the time and kept his empire strong how would that effect indian history and world history overall.

For how long? If the culture and such of India becomes similar enough and the realm itself is just replaced by another dynasty, I can see the sub-continent going down a very China-esque path.

There is a mandate of heaven-like statement somewhere in the Puranas I think it was. Maybe this text is studied enough until maybe a general rises up against the Mauryan dynasty and declares himself the king in name of the Vedic gods and all Aryan lands.
