An alternate King of the Belgians

WI Louis, Duke of Nemours had been accepted as King of the Belgians instead of Leopold I ? And BTW, why wasn't he accepted in first place? I imagine that being the son of the French king might have something to do with it, but I'm not sure.

Leopold was proposed by the Great Powers to be King of Greece at first but he declined... If he had accepted the throne i guess that Duke of Nemurs would have been the only acceptable choice...

Because other Great Powers (well, GB mostly) were quite paranoid about France annexing Belgium

The House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha ruling Greece? Seems interesting.

I thought they could have been affraid of something like this. However, if Nemours had been accepted as King of the Belgians and the Orleans are still overthrown in France in 1848 the relation between Belgium and France would become very interesting.

Leopold declined the Greek throne because he was afraid of the insubordination of the greek leaders following the assassination of Governor Ioannes Capodistrias...
Had he accepted the Greek throne the influence of GB over Greece would be at its greatest extant (sic) as he was related to the British royal family (he was an uncle to Victoria of Kent future Queen Victoria)... Maybe Ionian islands were offered as gift to the new King 30 years earlier than OTL...

Fascinate idea

with The House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha ruling Greece
will Leopold the III take Kongo ?
or start conquest of Occupied Greece Osman and Bulgaria ?

and Louis, Duke of Nemours king of Belgium
will he take trone of France after 1871 ?

will he sell the flamish part of Belgium to Kingdom of Netherlands ?
and take the French part of Belgium in to France ?

Off topic but I wonder; how exactly was Leopold related to Alfred (vicky's husband)?

Well, Louis was the second in line of succession, the first was his brother Ferdinand Philippe, and so his line would be restored (if there is a Orleanist restoration, and we still have Chambord alive).

I wonder what would happen in an ATL 1848, if the Orleans are still overthrown in France. Would the revolution spread to Belgium too? Or would Louis try to make with other Conservative powers in order to restore his father?

I was under the impression that it was Louis Philippe who didn't like the idea of his son becoming king of a different country, though the rest of my memory has faded far away

Best Regards

I have a feeling that if Leopold had accepted the Greek throne instead of the Belgian throne France wouldnt liked that... Just too much British in the Mediterranean...
