An alternate history of the U. S. joining the axis powers in the 1930s

This is something I have been thinking about for an alternate history scenario.
There are countless books and studies of the Third Reich winning world war two. Fatherland, and Man in High Castle are a few. Its been written on a lot.

So I am thinking abut another. What if the USA had joined with the Axis. Allied with the third reich during the 30s. How is it possible and what conditions would have had to occur for such an unlikely event to even be conceivable?

Seems the more I think about it, the more it seems impossible. The conditions for it would have had to go way back, before world war two. Probably had to occure in the 1850s. Something dark and a tragic change in the United States that dissolved the constitution and change the very nature of the American People. That made the USA more imperialistic and militaristic. And disrupt the relationship with the UK where that never happens.

But then, it wold change everything. The USA would have allied with Kaisers Germany during world war one and world war 2 would never occure

US entry into World War II would likely slow down or halt Anglo-French operations in North Africa and slow down or halt Anglo-Soviet penetration into Europe. The Germans and Italians would be receiving American reinforcements in North Africa and Western Europe, but it's hard to determine whether the US would collaborate with the Germans against the Soviets. I know the US would most certainly shun Japan, but if they came through, the Japanese could thrust further into China and potentially be better protected from Australian and Indian retaliation if American troops reinforce them.

I don't see the US committing themselves to the expansion of three imperious aggressors, especially one of them being viewed as a threat to their colonies (Japan). The problem with trying to make the United States join the Axis Powers is that the public and the government were overwhelmingly pro-British and pro-French and also, their geopolitical location allowing them to opt out of foreign affairs.

Perhaps you could have Woodrow Wilson keep the United States out of World War I despite the submarines and Zimmerman Telegram? (I once thought that if the Zimmerman Telegram was ever exposed to be a phony British document trying to get the US into the war for a quick end, that could keep them neutral). Before US entry into WWI, Canada vigorously prepared for war against the United States. If the US stays neutral, it's likely Canada would still hold the same level of caution towards them before World War I, despite the Anglo-Japanese Alliance being terminated at their behest.

If you want a POD around the 1850s, perhaps British Intervention in the American Civil War could sour relations between the two? Historians on this discussion board have proposed an Anglo-American War occurring some time during the 19th Century, but I can't be too sure. I was thinking that you could have Britain move in on the Philippines before McKinley's decision to colonize it, but that would likely end in a peace treaty between the two.

Yes it would have to occure long before World War 2

By the 30s An axis alliance is just unthinkable. Americans hated Hitler and Germany. They viewed Hitler as a grave threat. It was frightining. Getting americans to ever consider an alliance, isnt possible. They didnt want to enter the war, but still.
When War came, not too many people were surprised. And they were totally in favor of an all out total war.

So a change would have to happen generations before. Possible the mid 1800s to make such a fundamental shift in the american people and its government.

Another factor in World War two allies is the UK. The US and the UK had such a close relationship and cared for eachother. That shift happened during World War One.

I remember a Turtledove novel in which a Confederate soldier shoots Lincoln, and after that there is a more bloody Civil War, and a harsher policy against the southern people. Maybe this could bring the US on the road to be a more radical democracy, with more aggressive Presidents.
