I'd really hate to see this thread fall by the wayside (I really like the idea, and I enjoyed the first couple of verses so far)
So, here goes my best shot for 1953...
Joseph Stalin, Yangtze, Earl Warren, Bishop Sheen
Pepsi-Cola, Motorola, - - - - - [I couldn't come up with anything I really liked for this last slot. Any suggestions?]
Explanation:
- Joseph Stalin, as in OTL, dies.
- Communist China invades KMT China, with PLA forces getting as far south as the Yangtze before being decisively routed.
- Earl Warren is the new US president, as established in an earlier post.
- Fulton J. Sheen, auxilary Roman Catholic bishop of New York and charismatic televangelist, is given a new TV show on NBC.
- Pepsi-Cola, for the first time in its history, outsells Coca-Cola.
- Motorola begins an aggressive new marketing campaign for portable miniature television sets.
