Amphibious landing in 1917.

The British organised to undertake a landing on the Belgian coast in mid 1917. They built a pontoon that was pushed by a pair of 12 inch gunned monitors that could land a handful of tanks, troop and guns. They planned to link up with British forces on the Yser canal.

WI this landing had gone ahead instead of being cancelled?

I assume disaster?

The operation was very well planned and took in experience gained from Gallipoli. However I'm not sure it would be decisive, but if the landing force was able to link up with the main part of 4th Army pushing up the coast then capturing a reasonable bit of the Belgian coast was possible.

Putting an infantry division supported by tanks and artillery ashore on that stretch of the coast was probably not expected by the Germans, although they had fortified the coast.
