Dateline 14 October 1943.

Lieutenant Nesmith guided his PBY past the volcanic island of Amukta on the Aleutian Islands patrol from Anchorage. His gunner in the fuselage blister excitedly reported an aircraft to starboard. Nesmith could just make out that it was a single engined aircraft.

“Jesus, I heard those new P51’s were long ranged but I didn’t expect to see one out here. I’m going to take a look.”

He swung the plane round and approached the yellow nosed fighter.

“Hell that aint no stars on the wings of that plane. There’s swastikas on that thing.”

He turned to flee but it was already too late. Cannon flames erupted from the wings of the Me109F. As the Catalina went down an unforeseen future consequence was a different member of 60’s band the Monkees as Nesmith’s genetic line was obliterated.

Hauptmann Hermann landed the Me 109 on the makeshift airstrip.

“I think I got him before he could radio for assistance. He never knew what hit him.”

The SS ObersturmFuhrer in charge of the combined Amerikabomber mission congratulated him as he dismounted from the wing.

“The He277’s are well camouflaged, but who knows, eh Hermann?”

The giant four engined bombers had been assembled from packing crates in the hold of a Texan Jew hating Nazi sympathiser shipping magnate’s freighter.

To be continued…

I don't have the time to get into this, but this firmly belongs in ASB territory. MacCauley or Bill Cameron will proably do that for me.

Ok, where to begin...

1-Honestly, a racist Texan? REALLY?

2-How would the planes get on the ship. Did it sail to Germany and load them on in the middle of WWII?

3-A FULL-SIZED aircraft carrier, the Hornet, could barely give enough room to launch a two engine bomber, and that was only after the B-25's had a huge amount of weight taken off, and after much special training. How will four engined monster's take off from a makeshift aircraft carrier in the middle of WWII? First off, there where no cargo ships during that period long enough for a flight deck to handle anything that size, and even if, how would one manage to do the conversion? In port the government would notice, and at sea would be impossible.

Don't get me wrong, Its an interesting premise, but thoroughly ASB.

And BTW, Micheal Nesmith was born in 1942, so he is around and the Monkees could still form...;)

edit: Crap! I thought you where having them launch from a ship! My mistake. Still, the first two seem valid.

Is there something in the water these days?

Please move this to ASB. It is already so impossible that it is worse than dividing by Zero.

Aleutian Islands patrols were done off Amchitka and Adak. Anchorage was too far away for most patrols, even with PBY Catalinas.

“Jesus, I heard those new P51’s were long ranged but I didn’t expect to see one out here. I’m going to take a look.”

He swung the plane round and approached the yellow nosed fighter.

They used P-40s and P-38s in the Aleutian theatre, as the European units got first pick of new equipment and the P-38s were more able to stand up to the weather.

In order to build a series of airfields in the Aleutians, the American and Canadian militaries worked together to build what they did. It required putting down metal matting to keep the planes away from mud and dirt, and the construction of special housing as the williwaws frequently blew away the normal army houses the US Engineers put up.

The Japanese did what they did because they were using floatplanes and Zeros flying at the end of their fuel range. The Germans, in my opinion, couldn't have done any of that.

I understand the concept: using the Aleutians as a stepping stone towards the continental US. But the Germans doing it isn't logical, and the Japanese didn't make any moves towards building airstrips on Attu or Kiska, the two islands they occupied.

If you're interested in pursuing the story further, I'd suggest The Thousand Mile War: WWII in Alaska and the Aleutians, by Brian Garfield, or Working the North: Labor and the Northwest Defense Projects 1942-1946 by William R. Morrison.

I don't have the time to get into this, but this firmly belongs in ASB territory. MacCauley or Bill Cameron will proably do that for me.

Doing my best. There's something with the "invading America" thing going on lately.

Well, there are plenty of racist Texans, but there are also plenty of racist Not-Texan-Americans everywhere else (Even up north).

There's also a decent number of folks who CLAIM to be from Texas who are general %&*#heads. (Hint: Watching a Cowboy's Game doesn't make you a Texan).

Yeah, I've noticed that. I have relatives who live in Texas, and I don't think they're racists, but the one other person I know from Texas seems to be, but I never heard him say something of the sort.

I think it's a result of the inevitable afterglow post-furious-masturbation upon initial discovery of the Luftwaffe '46 site.

See here...

You got a freighter to get to the Pacific from Germany ? Well, if the Sea Wolves could do it, not a bad idea.

However...
Why do you need He-177s ?

Better to load up some Dorniers (shorter runways) and get to an island on the British Columbia coast.

Or load up with V-1 (Fi-103) and make clandestine catapult or rocket assisted take off launches to dump the warheads into New York from the western Atlantic.

For better results, use butterfly bombs and nerve gas in the warheads to shut down Halifax and New York ports.

Wow so now we are using steryotypes. Honestly, every Texan does not live on a ranch, is not racist, some live in big cities and even some are democratic! In fact a big majority of the state is made of Mexicans which work along side Caucasiuns without the annoyance of steryotypes....

Now I'm done with my rant.
