Mr.KnowAllSports Pre-Season NFL Blog
It’s time for another season of the footballs, and it seems like everyone is going to see the first ever home team in the Dallas Cowboys. I mean, they got Peyton Manning, had a decent draft class and Wade Phillips led them to the playoffs last year with the Third Seed so everything is right in Texas. Or is it? I am the first one to admit, I love to see angry Cowboys’ fans in my comment section, but just hear this argument out. Peyton Manning is near God status in the regular season, but in the postseason? He is a well known choke artist, just ask Indianapolis why they lost Super Bowl 44. Many except the Cowboys to do well in the postseason, and they could even clinch home field advantage on their way to being the first ever home Super Bowl team. But I’m not apart of the crowd. One simple reason. The Philadelphia Eagles. They just signed Quarterback Michael Vick. Yes, he is an asshole for what he did off the field, but on the field he was the Madden breaking Superstar that lead Atlanta to success for a handful of years. So I’m going to call it now. The Philadelphia Eagles are going to win the NFC East, and the Dallas Cowboys will clinch the Fifth Seed with a 11-5 record. The NFC Championship Game will be the New Orleans Saints vs. Green Bay Packers. Yeah, that’s right I said Green Bay. One reason, Aaron Rodgers is ready to break out as an Elite Quarterback. The Dallas Cowboys will LOSE a Peyton Manning led Rematch vs. the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card Round. The AFC Championship Game will be the New England Patriots and whoever is going to lose to the New England Patriots. The Lombardi Trophy will be hoisted by Tom Brady for the fourth time in his career, when they defeat the New Orleans Saints 27-23. Let me see those tears in the comment section Patriots Haters.
Question: What do you remember of that first game on the Cowboys?
PM: It was one of my best games. Period.
“And welcome everyone to the first Sunday Night Football of the season. Alot of eyes on this game, and for good reason. The first game of Peyton Manning in a Cowboys uniform. A move during the offseason that is leading many to expect them to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, in their own season.”
“And the first play for Peyton Manning on his new team will start at the 20 yard line, after the touchback on the kickoff. Manning starts under center, the snap comes in, he fakes the handoff to McCluster and then will step up and fire it deep...Bryant hauls it in! One defender is giving chase but he will not be caught! What a way to start his NFL Career. Dez Bryant’s first catch will go for a score. And just like that the Cowboys lead 6-0!”
“McCluster up the middle and into the endzone! Another touchdown by the Cowboys, they now lead 13-3, with 5:09 left in the first Quarter.”
“Manning under center. The Cowboys on the Redskins 34 yard line. The snap comes in, and he will have the time needed, fires over the middle, Witten hauls it in and will go untouched into the endzone! Another touchdown by Dallas, now a 20-3 game, and we still have 1:29 left in the first Quarter.”
“The last kneel down by Peyton Manning will finally end this game for the Washington Redskins. Anything but a close game here in Fedex Field. The Cowboys winning 49-6. Peyton Manning giving hope that the so called Super Team will live up to expectations, finishing with 498 Yards and 5 Touchdowns, no turnovers. They will travel host Chicago Next Week.”
Question: How was the first 3 Weeks like in Dallas?
PM: It was a whirlwind. The first game we easily won, and it was on national TV so it made us feel even better that all the doubters would be able to see what we were capable of. At the bye week we sat a 2-1 record, losing that heartbreaker in Chicago on a last second field goal. But we came back, took care of business against the Houston Texans. Even so early into the season, and with only a 2-1 record, we felt like we were the top team in the NFC.
2-1
Week 1. W at. Washington Redskins 49-6
Week 2. L vs. Chicago Bears 20-21
Week 3. W at. Houston Texans 31-13
Question: What was the week build leading up to your first match-up with your younger brother Eli?
PM: laughing as he speaks. Eli was trying to play mind games all week. He’d send me text messages like. Oh, a 5-1 record? Well, it’ll look better as 5-2. I’d always blow it off, because I had to stick to the game plan.
“Manning fires towards the endzone, and Witten hauls it in for six! The game’s first touchdown, on the game’s first drive.”
“Manning under pressure, steps up fires, no pump fake and he takes it himself, extends out into the endzone...for a score!”
“We are heading to Overtime here in Dallas. A high scoring affair, in large part to the Manning Brothers. They both have lead their teams to put up 35 points, as we head into Overtime.”
“The Cowboys win the coin flip here in Overtime. The teams are lined up here for the kick. The ball is booted deep into the hands of McCluster, he takes it out of the endzone. Past the 20 yard line, up the sidelines, met by a group of players cuts to his left, down the midfield marker and has one man to beat...he will be caught at the Giants 44 yard line! He had one man to beat and got caught by his shoestrings.”
“1st & 10 at the Giants 44 yard line. They are in great position to win the game here. Only needing 3 points. Manning starts under center, the snap comes. Fakes the handoff to McCluster before firing over the middle, caught by Miles Austin, who’s now taking it up the sidelines, avoids a tackle and dives into the endzone! Game Over! The Dallas Cowboys win 41-35 here in Overtime! What a game!”
5-1
Week 1. W at. Washington Redskins 49-6
Week 2. L vs. Chicago Bears 20-21
Week 3. W at. Houston Texans 31-13
Week 4. BYE WEEK
Week 5. W vs. Tennessee Titans 33-24
Week 6. W at. Minnesota Vikings 24-21
Week 7. W vs. New York Giants 41-35 O.T.
Question: How did you guys start off so hot?
PM: You know. I never know the answer to that. It just happens, it's always a combination of luck, skill and wins get you a good record. As vague as that sounds.
“And we are going to head to Overtime again here in New York. A much lower score than the first meeting between the two. Tied 17-17 going into the Extra Period.”
“Manning under pressure, he scrambles and then fires...picked off by Sam Shields! He’s brought down at the Giants 30 yard line. Setting the Cowboys up in great field position to win the game!”
“Manning hands it off to McCluster, up the middle and is brought down, a gain of 5 on the play.”
“McCluster gets the ball again, and up the middle again, and another gain of 5. Now a first down, and at the Giants 20 yard line and now great field position to win the game here.”
“Kris Brown now coming out for the 37 yard kick to win the game. The teams are lined up, the snap comes in...the kick will...miss! But the Giants called a timeout before the snap!”
“Kris Brown gets a break here. Missed the first kick, but the Giants called a timeout in an attempt to ice him. The teams lined up, the snap comes in...the hold is good and the kick...goes down the middle this time! The Dallas Cowboys win the game again in Overtime to sweep divisional rivals New York Giants.”
The Conversation between Eli and Peyton Manning
Eli: I guess I’ll just have to win the third match-up in the postseason.
Peyton: I’ll see you there, and hey who knows I’ll might buy a Super Bowl ticket for you when the game ends.
Both laugh.
7-2
Week 1. W at. Washington Redskins 49-6
Week 2. L vs. Chicago Bears 20-21
Week 3. W at. Houston Texans 31-13
Week 4. BYE WEEK
Week 5. W vs. Tennessee Titans 33-24
Week 6. W at. Minnesota Vikings 24-21
Week 7. W vs. New York Giants 41-35 O.T.
Week 8. W vs. Jacksonville Jaguars 21-13
Week 9. L at. Green Bay Packers 23-28
Week 10. W at. New York Giants 20-17 O.T.
Question: What was the mindset of going into Thanksgiving against the New Orleans Saints?
PM: You reporters are all the same. Laughing. Just as I said the week prior to the game, it’s just another game. Once you start thinking about who the opponent is, what happened the last time you guys met, you put yourself at a disadvantage. So I had no bad blood or what not going into, it was just another game.
“3:40 left in the game. Still tied 17-17 here late in Dallas. 2nd & 4 to go from the Saints 40 yard line for the Dallas Cowboys. Manning under center, gets the ball, fakes the handoff to McCluster before firing over the middle, Witten hauls it in before being taken down. A gain of 10, a fresh set of downs.”
“3:29 to go now. At the Saints 30 yard line, 1st & 10. Manning in shotgun formation now. The snap comes, has the time, looking and then fires towards the left sidelines for Bryant, who hauls in the catch before being shoved out of bounds, another pass for 10 yards.”
“Now 1st & 10 again, at the Saints 20 yard line. They only need a field goal to win the game, and they can wear as much clock as possible. 2:56 left to go. The snap comes in, Manning waits, before handing it off to McCluster who takes it up the middle, out to his left now, slips a tackle past the first down marker and past a block, and he is into the endzone! The Cowboys take the lead 23-17 with 2:43 to go.”
“Now the Saints need 7 to answer, and to send the game into Overtime. Trailing 24-17. 1st & 10 with 2:36 to go. A decent return gets them to their own 31 yard line. Brees under center to start, drops back gives it to Bush on a fake, and he then fires over to the left...picked off! Newman picks it off, he’s now returning it and he goes into the endzone to put the game on ice! The Dallas Cowboys now lead 30-17 waiting the PAT.”
PM: After that game, Newman came up to me with a football, I’m not really sure if it was the ball he got when he returned the pass, but he gave it to me saying that even if I didn’t believe in the lingering thought of the Super Bowl, he did and he got the pass for me.
Question: Your first game back in Indianapolis, how did you prepare?
PM: I was ready for the response. We all knew what we were expecting. But to be honest, I was surprised at the response I had gotten.
“And now, the visiting Dallas Cowboys.”
The Visiting Team runs out of the tunnel, as Peyton Manning is one of the last to come out, and the fans are split between cheers and boos.
PM: It took me by major surprise. I was expecting just a crescendo of boos to come flying my way, but I’ll admit it, the cheers got to me, knowing that I still had fans in the city that I started my career in.
Camera Shots of Signs during the Game, showing a difference of messages.
Welcome Home, Peyton.
We Already Like Tony.
You Can Always Come Back.
Stay In Dallas.
Question: What do you remember the most about that game?
PM: It was roughly around the third Quarter. We were up, I think 21-14, and we just had scored. I took my position on the bench, and I was looking over the playbook and getting recovered. You always hear things when you’re a visiting team from the fans. And amongst the things like, You Suck, Tony Is Better Than You, Never Come Back. I can still distinctly remember hearing a kid’s voice saying, Don’t Listen To Any of Them, and that made me feel better about my decision.
“3rd & 3 to go for Dallas. At their own 30 yard line. 1:30 to go in the game, still tied 35-35. Manning in shotgun formation, the snap comes, it’ll be a pass, he has the protection needed and he fires over the middle, off the hands of someone at the line and...it’s intercepted! The Cowboys cause an almost devastating turnover!”
“The Colts get the 38-35 victory over the Cowboys, thanks to the late kick made by Adam Vinatieri.”
“The Dallas Cowboys get another easy victory here in Dallas, as they mercifully finish the game. Cruising to a 42-17 victory, thanks to the 4 Touchdowns by Peyton Manning.”
“The PAT will tie the game here in Arizona. Teams are lined up here, and the kick...goes left! Kris Brown misses the PAT that surely wins the game for the Cardinals, wow!”
“The Dallas Cowboys clinch the Second Seed in the NFC. Defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 17-13, to finish the year with a 12-4 record. They will get the much appreciated Bye Week to start the postseason.”

Mr.KnowAllSports End Of The Regular Season Of The NFL Blog
Well. What the hell was this season? I’ll be the first to admit when I am wrong. And boy was I wrong about the NFC East. The Dallas Cowboys proved me and all the doubters wrong by winning the division and much less the Second Seed in the NFC. Before I get to them, where the hell did the Atlanta Falcons come from? To Clinch a playoff spot, much less the division title, much less the First Seed of the NFC. As well as the Seattle Seahawks. A 7-9 team is hosting the defending Super Bowl Champions. Just think about that statement. Hopefully they fix the system someday. Now back to the Dallas Cowboys. They would have the First Seed if it wasn’t for Kris Brown. They look like one of the top teams, and as much as I’d love to be a bandwagon of them, I still don’t see them as a top threat in the NFC. I’m sticking with my original pick of the Saints vs. Packers in the NFC Championship game. The AFC is still looking like the Patriots and the other five teams. The Super Bowl is still going to be the Patriots over the Saints. As for MVP award, I’d give it to Peyton Manning. 4,602 Yards 40 Touchdowns, while he does have 13 interceptions on the year, it still shouldn’t discredit the amazing season he has put up. While I can see the case for Tom Brady. 4,730 Yards 37 Touchdowns and less interceptions of 9 interceptions. He also has the better record at 14-2. Click the link below if you want to see my pick of every playoff game.
Question: Did you feel like you had a chance of winning the Super Bowl going into the Postseason?
PM: Of course. Every time you make the postseason, you have the mindset of winning the Super Bowl. It’s not like, Oh Well so-so is the better team than us so we should just look forward to the next season.
NFC Standings:
1. Atlanta Falcons 13-3
2. Dallas Cowboys 12-4
3. Chicago Bears 11-5
4. Seattle Seahawks 7-9
5. New Orleans Saints 10-6
6. Green Bay Packers 10-6
Author’s Notes:
Right, this is the exact same season as last time, but the postseason will have a different spin to it. Maybe even a different Super Bowl, who knows. But enjoy this one and the postseason will be up soon.
