What would America be like if we had a more tyrannical backround pre-revolution?

If the American Revolution didn't happen in the exact manner it did, what would America be like today? What I mean is, if we had a somewhat "tyrannical", and elitist backround would that make us a more of a progressive country today similar to what happened with the Dutch?

I have no idea what you mean. Also, you know Sweden and the Netherlands are two very different countries, right?

Also, some posting tips: every post doesn't have to be starting a thread -- you can and should post in other people's as well. Also, not everything has to be a poll.

Why does it have to be any of the above. I'd have thought that, given less political experience in an autocratic colonial sytem, it's probably a lot like South America, ie a mess.

So, by right wing paradise are we talking Libertarians or Objectivists or Conservatives or Fascists?

Well, Bob, I guess it's possible we could end up more like the Swedes or the Germans; Germany, btw, was pretty autocratic for the first 100 years or so that it existed as a coherent state(especially from 1933-45), and yet, it's now one of the most progressive states out there(though some of the hardcore rightists over there are trying to reverse this!).

What does a Latin American mess qualify as?

^this. "Latin American mess" can change from "political instability in an extremely prosperous country" to "mostly stable country with a few nuts wrecking havoc in a few cities and the jungle" to "198 coups in 200 years-and counting".
